General Questions

What is MainWP? MainWP is a free and open-source Wordpress Management system that allows you to manage multiple WordPress sites from one self-hosted Dashboard. The MainWP system consists of three parts the MainWP Dashboard plugin, the MainWP Child plugin, and MainWP Extensions. The MainWP Dashboard and Child are required for the system to work. Extensions are entirely optional. You install the MainWP Dashboard plugin on a new WordPress install. This plugin is required and is where you control your other WordPress sites. The MainWP Child plugin gets installed on the sites you want your MainWP Dashboard to control. This plugin is also required to allow your MainWP Dashboard to have a secure connection. MainWP Extensions add additions to the base MainWP Dashboard and are not required for the MainWP system. There are currently MainWP Extensions for backups, marketing, SEO, maintenance, security, monitoring, and other tools to help you build a better network. What is an Extension? It’s quite simple. First, follow the methods outlined in the following FAQs.

How Do I Customize My MainWP Plugins/Extensions? We do not recommend direct customization of the MainWP core code, and we do not support it. If you would like to code your Extension or hire someone to do so for you, our codex can is located at MainWP Codex. Does Your Plugin Work on WordPress.com? No, the MainWP system is for self-hosted WordPress sites only.

MainWP Support Questions

How Do You Provide Support? MainWP provides product related support via Support Tickets. We do not provide product support via email, Facebook, or Twitter, nor do we offer phone support or live chat. Please read our full support policy. Do You Have a Phone Number? We do not provide phone support. If you have pre-sales questions, contact us here! Can I Upgrade My Support Package? No, we treat all MainWP members with the same level of excellent support.

MainWP Account Questions

How Does Purchasing an Extension Work? You can download Free Extensions individually. Premium extensions are available through one of the MainWP Pro plans. We recommend the MainWP Pro plan to get all available and upcoming Extensions. I Haven't Received My Receipt or Login Details? Usually, the email is sent the moment your payment is approved, and that should be almost immediately. If you are purchasing one of the MainWP Pro plans, your existing Member account will be used so that your products are linked. If you don’t receive an email receipt or your login information soon after, please open a support ticket, and we’ll check in on your payment and account. I Can't log in to My Account! The account credentials are the ones you created when you set up your account. If you have forgotten your password, you can reset it directly on the login page. If you are having trouble logging into your account, please open a support ticket, and we’ll sort it out ASAP. I Can't Find My Products, Help? Log into your account and check the My Downloads page. If you still are unable to locate your Extensions, then please open a support ticket as there is most likely an issue with your account. We’ll be glad to sort it out ASAP. How Do I Order MainWP Pro With My Existing Account? Just be sure that you are logged in on the correct account when you go to our checkout page. Which Payment Types Do You Accept? We currently only accept PayPal and Stripe. How Do I Change My Billing Information? Log in and click My Account then select the manage your shipping and billing addresses tab. How Can I Cancel My Subscriptions? Canceling your Pro Plan is easy and can be done directly from your MainWP account. Please check this help document for detailed directions.

Extensions Questions

Is Buying an Extension a One-time Charge? You can download Free Extensions individually. We recommend the MainWP Pro plan to get all available and upcoming premium Extensions. How Long Will I Receive Updates and Support on Extensions? If you are on the monthly MainWP Pro plan, you will receive updates and support for as long as you remain an active member. If you are a Lifetime MainWP Pro member, you will receive updates and support for the life of the product. Do My Extensions Ever Expire? If you are on either the Monthly or the retired Yearly membership plans, your ability to access Support and Updates will expire when you cancel that membership. The Extension will continue to work with the last version you had when you canceled your membership. If you are a Lifetime MainWP Pro member, then your access to Support and Updates does not expire. Can I Test a Plugin/Extension Before Purchasing? MainWP is available FREE and can be downloaded directly from WordPress.org. The Extensions do not have a trial at this time. Should you find that the Plugin/Extension doesn’t work the way you need, we can quickly refund your purchase within 30-days, no questions asked. How Often Are Extensions Updated? We update our products any time we discover a bug, or there is a new feature that we feel should be added. How Do I Update My Plugin/Extension? Automatic updates are available for each Plugin/Extension. The process is the same as updating any WordPress Plugin. Navigate to your WP-Admin page where your MainWP Dashboard Plugin is installed, click Plugins, and check for updates. Updating Extensions works the same way. Please review the FAQ here. Can I Use Extension on Multiple Child Sites? Extensions are only used on the MainWP Dashboard. Extensions can be installed on as many Dashboards as you have. Can I Use Your Extensions for Client's Sites? You’re welcome to use our Extensions in this way without violating our license. If you have any more questions about licensing, please check the license agreement the Dashboard and Child plugin along with Extensions are licensed under the same GPL as WordPress. Do Your Extensions Work With WordPress Multisite (WPMS)? We have reports from users that it works, but we do not test on or support it.

Licensing Questions

Do Plugins and Extensions Have Licenses? All Extensions are licensed under the GPL code. Extensions can be used on unlimited sites. The Support and Updates licenses are separate and are valid for the period of your MainWP membership; Monthly, Yearly, or Lifetime. Are the Licenses Valid for a Lifetime? The Support and Update licenses are valid for the period of your MainWP Pro membership, Monthly, Yearly, or Lifetime. What Happens When My License Expires? If you are on the Monthly or Yearly MainWP membership plans, your licenses will automatically renew with each payment. The Lifetime membership does not expire. How Much Does It Cost to Renew My License? If you cancel and wish to sign up again, you will need to sign up at the current price. That means if you cancel and the price is raised when you re-sign up, you will need to pay the higher price. How Does License Activation Work? To activate your MainWP license, you will need to enter your login credentials in the MainWP Dashboard Plugin. It activates the Extension and allows it to receive updates. Extensions are set to auto-authorize based on the Activated Extensions in your account. You have the option to activate/deactivate this license key as many times as necessary.

Other Questions

Can MainWP Handle Thousands of Sites? You can manage an unlimited number of child sites, but how many websites that can be controlled under one dashboard is entirely dependent on the quality of your hosting. Please review the requirements page for more information. Do Your Plugins Work With the Latest Version WordPress? Yes, it is our duty always to keep the Plugins up-to-date and to work with the latest version of WordPress. Our Plugins are developed and fine-tuned for the current version of WordPress, any version before that may have problems with some functionality. If you find any issues after a WordPress update, please contact support. What Browsers & Operating Systems Are Supported? We test all our Plugins/Extensions, the latest versions of Edge, Firefox, Safari, and Chrome. Regarding operating systems, our products are independent of the operating system you use and will work as long as WordPress is installed correctly. We do not support Internet Explorer 6 and 7. If you use Internet Explorer 6 and 7, please consider upgrading to the latest Internet Explorer to have the best experience. Or switch to a different browser, the web will thank you! What Hosts Do You Recommend? We currently recommend the Cloudways MainWP Install, but MainWP is designed to work on most hosts that support WordPress and meet the minimum requirements. We also have a host compatibility page that you can check to see if your host has any known issues. Will It Run on My Servers? MainWP will work on both Windows and Linux servers as long as they meet the minimum requirements. Do You Need My cPanel or FTP details? That information is not required to run MainWP. However, if you need to contact support, they may ask you to provide that information for troubleshooting. What Does Self-Hosted Mean? Your main MainWP Dashboard is hosted on your WordPress install and not on our private servers. We do not keep records of your actions, sites, or anything else. With MainWP Privacy is Paramount! Is MainWP Secure? Attention to security is one of our top priorities at MainWP. We are active participants in the White Hat hacking site HackerOne which has hackers continually testing the plugin’s security.
