Faq On Upgrading From Mainwp Version 3 To Mainwp Version 4

This document is a centralized repository of questions that we have seen asked regarding converting from MainWP Version 3 to MainWP Version 4.

The upgrade process from 3 to 4

Dashboard and Child plugins Upgrading the MainWP Dashboard and Child plugins is the same as upgrading any other plugin. For directions on that process, please see this WordPress help doc. Extensions The process for updating your Extensions is a bit more in-depth since the MainWP Dashboard 4.0 will automatically disable older extensions (extensions older than version 4.0) to prevent unwanted incompatibility problems. To update Extensions, please do the following:

  1.  Go to the WP Admin > Plugins > Installed Plugins page on your MainWP Dashboard site
  2.  Delete Version 3 Extensions from your Dashboard
  3.  In your Dashboard, go to the Bulk Install and Activate page enter your MainWP.com login credentials and click install Extensions. The Bulk Install and Activate feature will automatically install and activate any Extensions your account has access to, there is no need to add each API separately. This process will not affect your extensions settings. Settings will stay the same.

Rolling back from Version 4 to Version 3

Even after extensive testing, we realize some members may want to test Version 4 and then roll back to version 3. The easiest way is to use the WP Rollback plugin and follow the directions for that plugin. Dashboard and Child plugins To rollback, the Dashboard and Child plugins visit their respective WordPress.org page: MainWP Dashboard MainWP Child Locate and click the "Advanced View" link then find "Previous Versions" click the dropdown and select the version you want to roll back. Once the version you want is downloaded, follow the directions in this WordPress help doc on " Manual Plugin Installation", being sure to overwrite your version 4 files. Extensions To roll back Extensions, you will need to log into your MainWP account and go to the API Downloads section where you can download the Legacy versions. The download link is available in the Legacy column of the download table. Once the Extension you want is downloaded, follow the directions in this WordPress help doc on " Manual Plugin Installation", being sure to overwrite your version 4 files.

Will you be maintaining Version 3?

Once version 4 is released, we will no longer be maintaining version 3 in any way, and Support will be limited to the first few months. Any updates or fixes will ONLY be released in Version 4 and higher. Unfortunately, we do not have the workforce to keep two separate codebases updated. Thanks for understanding.

Will I be forced to update to Version 4?

You will not be forced to update to version 4. Please realize that we will no longer be maintaining version 3 as noted in the "Will you be maintaining version 3?" FAQ.

Anything else I need to know about the Version 4 update?

Version 4 is a major update and introduces big changes. After the update, be sure to hard-refresh your browser a couple of times to make sure that all new Javascript and CSS files are loaded properly.
